Mastering the Top Roll: Hand Setup and Leverage Vectors

What is a Top Roll?

The Top Roll is an outside pulling technique that focuses on hand supremacy, finger pressure, and lever extension. Unlike the Hook, which relies on bicep-to-bicep force, a top roll aims to open the opponent's fingers and hand angle, stripping them of bicep leverage.

Key Steps for a Perfect Top Roll

  1. Hand Setup: Place your hand high on the opponent's thumb. Keep your wrist straight and knuckle line elevated.
  2. Pronation: Rotate your wrist inward, forcing the opponent's palm to face downwards.
  3. Back Pressure: Pull towards yourself using your back muscles and lat, dragging their hand away from their shoulder line.

Essential Gym Exercises for Top Rollers

To pull off a high-quality top roll, you need extreme wrist rising and pronation strength. Focus on hammer curls, pronation strap lifts, and weighted pull-ups to build pulling stability.
